Pre-K / Kindergarten Teacher

with Potential Elementary Opportunities

St. Catherine of Siena Academy is seeking a joyful, organized, and mission-driven teacher to lead our Pre-K / Kindergarten classroom beginning in the 2026–2027 academic year.

St. Catherine of Siena Academy is an independent Classical school in the Catholic tradition serving students in Pre-K through 8th grade, with plans to expand into a full high school program. Entering its fifth year, Siena Academy is a faithful and joyful school dedicated to cultivating wisdom, virtue, and a lifelong love of learning.

Our mission is to support parents as the primary educators of their children through a rigorous liberal arts and sciences education in the Catholic tradition.

The Pre-K / Kindergarten classroom typically enrolls between 8–12 students and offers a warm, screen-free environment rooted in wonder, beauty, attentiveness, and joyful discovery. Our curriculum draws heavily from Classical education resources including Memoria Press and other Classical education materials.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a mixed-age Pre-K / Kindergarten classroom

  • Communicate professionally, warmly, and consistently with parents, faculty, and school leadership

  • Maintain strong organizational and administrative practices related to lesson planning, classroom management, student records, and school communication

  • Foster a joyful, orderly, and nurturing classroom culture

  • Teach foundational early childhood skills through a Classical approach

  • Collaborate closely with fellow faculty and school leadership

  • Model Christian charity, virtue, and respect for the God-given dignity of every human person

  • Participate in the prayer life and community life of the school

Qualifications

Preferred candidates will possess:

  • A bachelor’s degree (required)

  • A degree in education and/or classroom teaching experience preferred

  • Experience working with preschool and elementary-age students

  • Strong classroom management, communication, organizational, and administrative skills

  • A love for children and a passion for teaching

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • A willingness to learn and grow within the Classical education model

Applicants who are new to Classical education are warmly encouraged to apply. Professional development and mentorship opportunities are available for teachers interested in deepening their understanding of Classical pedagogy.

Candidates with experience teaching elementary-aged students beyond the kindergarten level are encouraged to apply, as additional teaching opportunities may arise as the Academy continues to grow.

Catholic Identity

St. Catherine of Siena Academy operates in the Catholic tradition and faithfully adheres to the teachings of the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church. The school enjoys a strong relationship with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ogdensburg and participates regularly in the sacramental life of St. Mary's Church in Canton.

Applicants must be comfortable modeling the prayers, teachings, and moral life of the Catholic faith within the daily life of the classroom and school community.

Compensation

  • Nine-month contract

  • Starting salary begins at approximately $30,000 and is commensurate with experience and qualifications
