Frequently Asked Questions:

Can my child attend SCSA if we are not Catholic?

We welcome any family who is seeking a Classical Liberal Arts Education for their child. We are a school in the Catholic Tradition and are faithful to the teachings of the Magisterium of the Catholic Church and welcome families outside of the Catholic faith tradition who have an understanding of the nature of SCSA.

Will SCSA be using technology in the classroom?

A Classical Liberal Arts Education is focused on children’s natural development in mastering the basics in order to form strong building blocks from which to grow. In this time-tested educational approach, there is less of an emphasis on technology, and more so on mastering the basics in order to grow and form connections. There will certainly be times where multimedia is used in the classroom to enhance lessons, however, students will not have individual tablets, Chromebooks, smart-board use etc. (Phew! Doesn’t that sound wonderful?)

Will students be learning about a variety of cultures?

Absolutely! Our history and literature curriculum incorporates different civilizations, cultures, and time periods.

Why are the students learning Latin? Why study a “dead” language?

That’s a great question! We find that Memoria Press (our core curriculum) puts it best. Here is a super helpful breakdown with the top 10 reasons we teach Latin. Were you looking for something shorter? Our friends at Lourdes Academy put together this simplified list. The shortest answer ever? Learning Latin is hands down the best way to teach grammar, which in turn helps students become articulate and clear communicators both in their writing and orally. (Oh, and hey! Did you know that Latin was taught in most Public Schools until around 1962?)

If you are considering enrolling your child(ren) at Siena Academy but feel that the cost is prohibitive, we encourage you to be in touch (infoatscsa@gmail.com). We are just getting started and it takes time to raise funds and develop meaningful relationships with donors and supporters to be able to offer financial aid - but we don’t know what might be possible until you ask. Perhaps we can pursue some options together!
